What is SES?
The term "Supplemental Educational Services" refers to free additional academic instruction that is provided to students who attend
a Title I school that has been designed by the state to be in need of improvement. SES, or free tutoring, are designed to increase
the academic achievement of eligible students outside of the regular school day. The school district determines who is eligible for
the program.
For over 30 years ICES Education has provided quality educational services. This year ICES Education was approved by the
California Board of Education as a Supplemental Educational Service (SES) provider; ICES is looking forward to continue providing
services at this new capacity.
FREE TUTORING FOR QUALIFIED STUDENTS
ICES Education Approach
ICES provides students with the customized instruction and the individualized attention they need to achieve a better
understanding, better grades, and greater confidence in their ability to perform academically. ICES' curriculum is customized in
collaboration with parents and schools to provide targeted additional academic instruction.
ICES Education's tutors are experienced and trained on effective teaching strategies, monitoring student progress and utilizing
different accommodations to meet student's needs. Students are matched with the tutor based on the tutor's academic strengths
along with consideration of the family's needs.
Eligibility and Application process
Students from low-income families who remain in Title I schools that have failed to meet the state standards for at least two years
are eligible to receive supplemental educational services. Under No Child Left Behind, school districts are required to notify parents
if their child is eligible for free tutoring, because his or her school has been identified as needing improvement. The parent/guardian
of a qualifying student has the option of selecting a provider during the application process. Applications are mailed by the district
and are also distributed at qualifying school sites.
